A Cathartic Process – Abstracts

According to Wiki: “Abstract art uses a visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world.[1] “
You’d not be able to tell from my work now, but there was a time when I actively disliked abstracts. You know the old saying, “you become what you hate”? Well, I hit a phase between 2003 – 2006 where all I produced were abstracts. It was frustrating; I had shows lined up that were expecting my more realistic fare. Over the course of the three years this Muse possessed my hands and mind, I learned to relax. It was cathartic.
The journey is an interesting thing to look back on; I survived, I won and my artwork transformed when I did. Creativity is such a personal journey, I’m grateful that people like my end results.
Thank you.
Cheers,
Jenn
